ulla-stina wikander's cross-stitch-covered objects
Still haven’t thrown out the broken hand mixer that’s been sitting in your cupboard for the last two years? Fret not. You can take inspiration from Swedish creative Ulla-Stina Wikander and turn that junk into art!
Ulla-Stina has spent years collecting abandoned pieces of cross-stitch embroidery, and uses them to revive a range of ’70s-era household items. With nimble fingers, Ulla-Stina cuts and pastes the embroidery onto everything from sewing machines and typewriters to teapots and toasters.
The end result is a collection of kitschy, “dressed-up” objects. Ulla-Stina has made hundreds of these fascinating artworks (which take anywhere between a day and several weeks to complete), so if you’d like to take a gander at more of them, we recommend popping over to her Instagram.
