flip through 70 years of ikea catalogues
It wasn’t too long ago that we were obsessing over old scans of IKEA catalogues from the ’80s and ’90s. Well, it seems the Swedish furniture giant heard our cries for more vintage goodness, because they’ve now launched a digital archive of catalogues dating back to 1950. Yep, you can officially fall into a scroll hole of pages and pages of retro tables and cringey (or cool?) denim lounges.
For what it's worth, the earliest catalogues are pretty cut and dry, but things start getting more interesting from the ’60s onwards, when styled images appear in colour. You’ll also spot the first-ever BILLY bookcase in 1979, but not before you cycle through plenty of mod lounge suites and lots of daggy brown carpets. If you miss spending all day in the labyrinth that is the IKEA showroom, this archive might offer some temporary relief.
