converse's fitzroy store is a renew and repair hub
These days it’s all too easy to get caught up in the fast fashion cycle. If something starts to look a little shabby, you can pop online and replace it in mere minutes – and without spending too much of your precious moolah. The cost on the environment, however, is a lot higher, with all those discarded items heading straight to landfill.
In an effort to reduce their environmental impact, Converse has opened Renew Labs Fitzroy – a hub where folks can customise, refresh and repair their old Chucks rather than throwing them away. Renew Labs also serves as a collection point for any kicks that can’t be mended so they can be recycled into products like gym flooring through the nifty national recycling initiative, TreadLightly.
Converse has also teamed up with a bunch of local creatives to deck out Renew Labs and host workshops in the space. This includes Collingwood artist Tamara Leacock, of R E M U S E Designs, who has created an ace apparel collection for Renew Labs using low-impact dye techniques. You can find the collection, along with Converse’s recycled Renew range, at the brand-spanking-new Renew Labs space in Fitzroy.
