Normally we wouldn't encourage you to nosh down on a platter of balloons (in fact, please never attempt that, lovely people), but there is one exception: when they're formed out of a sweet and pearly edible mixture and plonked on top of very festive cake. In that case, you can pop them in your gob to your heart's content, perhaps while doing a happy birthday dance and crying out 'It's my birthday! I am the greatest!' in between chews. (If, however, you've made this cake for a pal's special day, you might be better off nibbling in peace.)
