there's still time to catch these rad melbourne fashion week events, talks and workshops
Calling all fashionistas: add these events to your calendar.
We're not ones to show favouritism, but we reckon that October just so happens to be the very-best month out of the whole year. The weather starts getting warmer, Halloween is just around the corner and Melbourne Fashion Week makes it's yearly (and fabulous) arrival once again – with it being from October 21th to 27th this year.
There are only a few more days left to celebrate MFW, but do not fret! We've done the hard work for you lovely folk by picking some neato talks, workshops, exhibitions and more snazzy events that are still available to check out. Peruse our list below!
HOW NEURODIVERGENT CREATIVES ARE SHAPING FASHION'S FUTURE In issue 119, we had a chinwag with author, educator and all-around badarse Sonny Jane Wise. Now, they're putting their awesomeness out on the road with this panel held at Community Hub at The Dock – focusing on neurodiversity and it's role within the fashion industry. This panel will include insights from creatives including accessibility consultant Akii Ngo, producer and model Sean Galway and creative director Nathan Van, so check out all the deets by popping by the event's page.
FASHION CAPSULES If you're a busy bee who doesn't have time to stop and sit, we recommend going on an expedition to find all the schmick collections of Melbourne/Naarm-made fashion pieces in capsules across the city. You can find out where each one is located over here.
RE:FASHION MARKET AND WORKSHOPS If you're itching to learn more about where to find and how to style pre-loved garments and accessories, we suggest checking out the snazzy talks, workshops and market held at 50 Lonsdale Street. Take a gander at their full program this-a-way, if you fancy a closer look.
TRENCHES TO RUNWAY: MILITARY INFLUENCES ON POPULAR FASHION For history-buffs who love to dress up: this exhibition is for you. Held at The Shrine of Remembrance until the 27th, folks are treated to an abundance of historic military garms that have since gone on to inspire the fashion choices of today – and how these two different worlds come together. Is your interest piqued? Visit the event's page here.
REPAIR AND RE-WEAR – BAABY X M/FW We've become pretty big fans of local and sustainability-focused Melbourne/Naarm brand Baaby for a hot minute now, but since learning that they will be holding an educational and creative workshop on how to stitch, mend and repair duds this Saturday, we reckon we've become their number one fans. Take a hop, skip and a jump over to the event's page for all the info you'll need.
Melbourne Fashion Week will be held from October 21 to 27.
