You might have a hankering to burrow into a quilt cocoon until winter's over and done with, but perhaps a better option is to surround yourself with the stitched beauties at the Quilts 1700-1945 exhibition.

You might have a hankering to burrow into a quilt cocoon until winter's over and done with, but perhaps a better option is to surround yourself with the stitched beauties at the Quilts 1700-1945 exhibition. Over 200 years of British patchwork and quilt-making will be on display at the Queensland Art Gallery in Brisbane, alongside explanations of the awesomely historic stories behind their delicate needlework.

Adding to the quilt-stravaganza is a string of throw-themed side events. We're particularly digging the Sunday Stitch-Ups, a series of three outdoor events in QAG's Sculpture Courtyard, featuring hands-on workshops, crafty talks and an opportunity to dig through vintage and locally-made goodies at the Suitcase Rummage markets.

The exhibition runs June 15th to September 22nd and you get all the information about it over here. We just so happen to have a stash of 20 tickets to give away, so if you're a quilt lover from way back, pop an email through to us here with your name and address.

To the left you'll find:

Unknown women of the convict ship HMS Rajah, under the direction of Kezia Hayter / The Rajah quilt 1841.
Elisabeth Chapman / Coverlet commemorating the Duke of Wellington dated 1829.
MCB / Coverlet with sundial dated 1797.
