Call up your mates for a movie night or get cosy for a solo film binge, we’ve got some ace flicks to check out.

If you still have “Murder on the Dancefloor” stuck in your head or you’re still reeling over the sheer madness shown in the 2023 mega-hit film, Saltburn, then do not fret: you are not alone. If you’re like us, then you’re itching to feast your eyes on some truly wild, bonkers and incredibly stylish flicks to watch, so take a gander at our list down below, and hey, maybe you can watch these with your mum and dad this time!

PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN This flick is the directorial debut of the clever cookie who directed Saltburn, Emerald Fennell, and it’s just as boisterous and thrilling as the fancy flick set in Oxford. This film, this time taking place in the States, follows our protagonist Cassie (played excellently by Carey Mulligan) unable to enjoy life following the loss of her best friend. This film focuses on the prevalence of rape culture in society, as Cassie attempts to take revenge on the people who hurt her friend. This black comedy will take you on twists and turns that you will not expect, and, like Saltburn, it also has a pretty killer soundtrack.

THE KILLING OF A SACRED DEER Starring Saltburn’s leading man, Barry Keoghan, this psychological thriller is inspired by an Ancient Greek myth, so you already know it’s going to be pretty bananas. The film stars Colin Farrell, Nicole Kidman (Aussie represent!), Alicia Silverstone and more, and follows a surgeon attempting to understand why his family is mysteriously ill with no cure after becoming friends with a young boy, shortly before a terrifying twist. Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos (who has a penchant for weirdness), this flick is sure to stay in your mind long after the credits roll.

THE TALENTED MR. RIPLEY Based on the 1955 novel of the same name, this ‘90s movie stars Matt Damon as the eponymous main character as well as Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow, Cate Blanchett (Aussie represent x2!) and Philip Seymour Hoffman, this film is similar to Saltburn in that it features an outsider becoming unbelievably obsessed with an uber-rich counterpart, and it also heavily features deception, lies and murder – how fun!

THE MENU If unsettling stories are your forte, then we reckon this 2023 comedy horror featuring an ensemble cast including Ralph Fiennes as a uniquely terrifying chef, as well as Anya Taylor-Joy, Nicholas Hoult, and many more familiar faces is right up your alley. Following a young couple travelling to a luxury and remote island to partake in a personal dinner party by a renowned chef, things soon turn out to be a lot more sinister. This film takes "eat-the-rich" to almost a literal level, and we’re sure that this wild ride is bound to keep you stuck on the very edge of your seat.

KILL YOUR DARLINGS This 2013 film was made ten years before Saltburn, but it still has almost the very same vibe that we’re sure all you cinephiles will love. Starring Daniel Radcliffe and Dane DeHaan in the main roles with David Cross, Ben Foster, Elizabeth Olsen and other famous folk in supporting roles, this film depicts the uni days of the members of the Beat Generation (basically, the smarty-types who helped influence American culture and literature in the 1950s) that also features murder and a healthy heaping of homoeroticism. Equal parts historical and fiction, this intellectual tale of passion and murder should be added to your must-watch list pronto.
