hear from key music industry figures in this new podcast
Take a peek inside the music industry.
Have you ever wondered how your favourite music gets made or what it takes to put on a live show? Well, the Australian Institute of Music and homegrown musos Josh Pyke and Elana Stone are hoping to share all that in their new podcast, It’s Raining Mentors. The fortnightly episodes will see Josh and Elana interview key players about the ins and outs of the music industry (which Elana describes as a “constantly shapeshifting universe”), including record labels, booking agents and the live scene.
Josh says the idea for the podcast came from his own experiences as a young muso. “When I started out, I found the music industry really confusing and quite unlike any other industry I’d experienced. I didn’t really know any musicians, so I had no one to ask about things,” he says. “The purpose of making this podcast is to try and demystify it a little, so that perhaps emerging artists and industry folks won’t be as overwhelmed as I was.”
In the first episode, which dropped this week, Josh and Elana chat with Select Music’s Stephen Wade, who books local acts like Amy Shark, Baker Boy and Client Liaison. Tune into the ep below, and head to Spotify and Apple Music for future episodes, which will feature insiders like Warner Music CEO Dan Rosen, Ivy League A&R Manager Marihuzka Cornelius and Village Sounds’ lead booking agent Katie Rynn.
