Got an original screen idea? Netflix’s The Next Brilliant Career is open for applications from now until August 18th.
It’s no secret that Australian film and TV have a pretty awesome history of making exceptionally kooky and unique screen stories that reflect an honesty about the Australian experience. There’s Warwick Thornton and Sweet Country, P.J. Hogan and Muriel’s Wedding, Shannon Murphy and Babyteeth. And then there’s Gillian Armstrong (and, originally, Miles Franklin) and My Brilliant Career. In celebration of the latest adaption of the famed novel-turned-movie-turned-stage-musical-turned-Netflix-series, the streamer is partnering with the Australian Writers' Guild and Australia's eight State and Territory Screen Agencies to launch Netflix's The Next Brilliant Career.
If you’re an emerging Australian screenwriter who identifies as female or non-binary and you’re bursting at the seams with a story to tell – an “original, authentically-Australian scripted concept” – then saddle up. One finalist from each state and territory will make it onto a shortlist of applicants that will then be given the chance to pitch their concept live at Netflix’s ANZ headquarters in October.
