Fabric painting is a really great place to start if you think you might be lacking a crafty thumb. And if you make some for your mum to replace those Charles & Di napkins she's been using for the last twenty years, she'll be happy, I promise.
Let's get started with supplies:
MATERIALS
Fabric paint
Round sponge brush
Flat sponge brush
White cotton napkins
Painters tape
Paper
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Place the paper under your napkin. Start with your sponge brush and dot the napkin with your first colour. Just splotch it randomly as you'll build the pattern colour by colour.
2. Fill in some more of your napkin with the next colour. Make sure you go right over to those edges too.
3. Keep dotting your paint until you have used all the colours. Leave this napkin aside to dry and get started on the next one.
4. For your stripey napkin, cut strips of painters tape and place it across the napkin. Paint between the lines and once dried, peel away the painters tape to reveal lovely straight lines.
Once you've painted all your napkins, follow the instructions on the fabric paint to set the paint. My paint required me to place some paper over the napkins and iron on a high heat for a few minutes.
How cute would these look at a picnic!
