Please don’t misunderstand: this is not a statement against books. I am 100% in favour of reading books. Everyone should read books. Go books! But movies can give different pleasures to reading – and there is nothing wrong with watching an imagined world come to life through light and movement, if that’s what you feel like doing.
So, the next time you feel like reliving the horrors of high school in the glory of your living room, bust out the muesli bars, crack open a Le Snak and maybe give the following five a go:
