embroidered rock art
For those about to embroider rocks, we salute you.
According to Byrd Baylor, everybody needs a rock – hence the title of her classic 1985 tome Everybody Needs a Rock. Fibre artist Shu Ning Lim thoroughly agrees, and has long been picking up rocks as travel souvenirs, thanks to the wisdom she gleaned from Byrd’s book. But recently the Singapore-based lass has been taking her rock love to the next level, using needle felting and embroidery to turn regular stones into soft, charming companions. She uses stitches to cover up holes in the felt and to embroider a face on each one. So cool! Scroll down to take a closer peek at her handiwork.
