asylum seeker resource centre telethon
The Asylum Seeker Resource Centre is holding a very special telethon this coming Tuesday to help out refugees.
Want to help out folks seeking asylum? Thanks to the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC), it’s as easy picking up the phone, firing off a text, or jumping online, and shelling out what you can between 6am and midnight this coming Tuesday, aka Tuesday June 20th, aka World Refugee Day.
Should you give them a bell to make a donation, you might end up chatting to some pretty rad types, including Christos Tsiolkas, Susan Carland, First Dog on the Moon, Missy Higgins, Julian Burnside and Courtney Barnett. Yep, all those guys and more will be manning the phones (which, we must say, is pretty damn cool of them).
To give, call 1300 692 772 (or 1300 MYASRC), SMS HOPE to 0437 371 371 to make a $20 donation, or pop over to their website – and with a little luck, the ASRC will hit their goal of $300,000, enough to provide 12,000 nights of shelter to hundreds of people seeking safety in our community, 1699 appointments for holistic mental health and one year of food and groceries for 45 families seeking asylum.
