There's no need to limit your use of pastels to homewares, nail polish and Easter eggs – it's just as much fun to whack it on your face. Soft hues can be super-cute when featured on the cheeks, eyes and lips – think peppermint, lavender, apricot and powder pink – and we have some handy-dandy tips on how to give it a go.



TOOLS:

pastel eye shadow - one or two colours
pastel blush
pastel lipstick
medium/large eye shadow brush
small eye shadow brush
blush brush



INSTRUCTIONS:

1. First things first, apply base makeup. If you have any, use a face powder or skin-coloured eye shadow to your eyelids and all the way up to the brow. This prepares your lids for long-wearing eye makeup and a nice vibrant colour. Use your medium-to-large brush to apply your chosen pastel eye shadow colour – from the lash bed up to the crease of your eyelid. Sweep it very slightly past the inner and outer corners.

Pastel colours look best in a matte finish, however sheeny/shimmery finishes are nice, too. Use your small eye shadow brush to add the colour along the bottom lash bed and again, into the inner corner and just past the outer corner. Finish eye makeup with eyeliner (top lash line only) and mascara on the top and bottom lashes.



2. Take your blush brush and apply your blush colour to the apple of your cheeks. A matte finish blush is best if you have used a shimmery eye shadow. Too much shimmer can take away from featuring your pastel makeup, and make you look a little bit like a disco ball (if that's what you're going for, however, continue as you wish)! Peaches and pinks are best – perhaps consider what lip colour you will use in order to determine your blush colour. Here we have used a pink on the cheeks and brow, and a coral/apricot shade on the lips.



3. Lips! There are some wonderful pastel lip colours available. You can find everything from baby blue to mint green to butter yellow. Again, the best ones to show off these paler shades are the matte finish type. Consider a double application to prevent it from looking patchy.



4. A second colour eye shadow can be applied to the bottom lash line for an extra boost of colour. Use a small eye shadow brush and sweep the colour along the bottom lash bed. You can also use a pastel-coloured eyeliner applied to the waterline of the eye.
