Sometimes something as simple as the humble button can be transformed into a poetic representation of a much larger issue.

Sometimes something as simple as the humble button can be transformed into a poetic representation of a much larger issue.

When Melbourne artist Julie Vinci's father was diagnosed with a terminal illness, she began thinking about how she could make sense of something as arbitrary and random as death. Using buttons as a representation of the memories and experiences we have held in our lifetimes, she has created these interestingly beautiful canvases using authentic entomology pins. The result is something quite spectacular in its simpleness: trying to order your thoughts and feelings when someone you love is ill is just as senseless and melancholy as trying to order buttons.

Julie's exhibition Line of Beeps is currently on until October 7th at Opendrawer Gallery in Melbourne - if you're not a local, you can see more of her work on her website here.
