we the makers’ craft tutorials

Try your hand at Iraqi embroidery or even finger-knitting with these at-home tutorials for kids and grown-ups.

Since we’re all trying to be super-mindful about sustainable fashion and textile waste, it’s a great time to bone up on our craft skills. After all, you can work some serious magic with leftover yarn, vintage fabric or even an old tee. If you’re on the hunt for inspo, the fine folks from the We The Makers design festival, an online exhibition at Geelong’s National Wool Museum, have put together a handy collection of tutorials for at-home textile craft sessions. They’ve got videos and tutorials from local experts on Iraqi embroidery, furoshiki fabric wrapping, creative mending, mask-making and more. Some of the videos are already up and available, while others are free courses that require registration. To keep kiddos entertained, they’ve also provided videos and activity guides for the mini-makers in your life (though we have to admit, we’d love to whip up a few friendship bracelets, too).
