photo series: one with nature

By the frankie team

This ongoing photo series captures zoologists, opera singers, academics and parachutists attempting to blend in with their scenic surrounds.

For their ongoing photo series ‘Eyes as Big as Plates’, artistic duo Karoline Hjorth and Riitta Ikonen take the meaning of being ‘one with nature’ to new heights. Inspired by characters from Nordic folklore, the two creatives photograph subjects who each have a special connection to the environment. To stage their meticulous shots, the pair also develop wearable sculptures that reflect the natural landscape in frame. The results are rather curious: in one photo, a ceramic artist lays against a rock in Norway, head poking out from beneath a mound of clay. There’s plenty more oddities in the project, too, like the model donning vegetables in the middle of a forest, or a man laying peacefully on a lush hill, back covered in tufts of grass. Take a gander at the whole series here (and keep an eye out for these odd fellows the next time you're out in the wildnerness).frankie Karoline Hjorth and Riitta Ikonenfrankie Karoline Hjorth and Riitta Ikonen 2frankie Karoline Hjorth and Riitta Ikonen 3frankie Karoline Hjorth and Riitta Ikonen 4frankie Karoline Hjorth and Riitta Ikonen 5frankie Karoline Hjorth and Riitta Ikonen 6
