In a move of hemline-inspired genius, History Week and Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival Sydney have teamed up this year to create a smorgasbord of events set to soothe the souls of modern style and vintage lovers alike. They're calling it 'Threads' and it comprises of more than a hundred free events around Sydney, all based on the theme of fashion through the ages. Frocks and trends have always been very indicative not only of cultural movements in eras past, but also of economic and political trends (like the A-line cuts of '40s dresses due to fabric rations and the sexual revolution shortening skirts during the '60s). If this kind of dialogue - or those kinds of dresses - tickle your fancy, then head over here or here to see what's happening in your area.

If you're more a contemporary fashion fan, the main part of Sydney Fashion Festival wraps up this weekend, but there is still a whole bunch of stuff you can head along to. Click here if runways and asymmetrical designs are more your thing.
