a playlist from the frankie team
Some ace songs we’ve been listening to (a lot).
We love a carefully considered playlist here at frankie – whether it's full of tracks you can pop on in the background or the kind of feel-good vibes you can't help but share with your neighbours (Dolly Parton while we spring clean? Don't mind if we do).
This month, we asked the team to share some of the ace tunes they’ve had on repeat in recent weeks. Give them a spin in the playlist below:
“I’m one of those people who listens to particular songs or albums obsessively rather than curating playlists. I keep coming back to Caroline Polachek’s Pang for those beautiful cyborg vocals, and I’ve been playing SZA’s “Hit Different” over and over (and will probably do so until she drops her much anticipated second album).” – Emma, assistant editor and online editor
"I’ve been listening to Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colours album on repeat on vinyl. Her voice puts me in the best mood. “Here I Am” is plaintive, Rolling Stones-esque rock-gospel you should sing into a hairbrush at least once in your life. Also, “Light of a Clear Blue Morning”, Dolly’s declaration of independence from her long-time writing partner, is about coming out the other side of a tough time. Use it to ring in 2021.” – Kate, branded content director
“I keep playing this song “Beachwood Cyn” by Grady. My favourite song changes every week/day/hour, but this one has crept back in a few times. Something about the lyrics ‘Everyone has too much time to kill’ resonates with me at the moment, plus that bass line – mwah.” – Lizzie, production and admin coordinator
"I'm still stuck on the goodness that is Lianne La Havas – especially her latest self-titled album. Her voice is just so soothing and dreamy, it's hard to feel stressed!" – Sophie, editor
“Randomly, I’ve been listening to Robyn heaps – her songs just put me in a good mood and lift the working-from-home vibe.” – Molly, partnerships manager
“I've been listening to Hayley Williams, Angel Olsen, Leif Vollebekk and lots of ‘90s throwbacks. I've been craving soothing, easygoing tunes for working and relaxing, with some emotion thrown in (us Melburnians are in stage 4 lockdown, after all).” – Casey, junior designer
“My recently played tracks are the workings of a true Gemini – a little bit shouty and sometimes chaotic, but always emotional. I recently stumbled upon the debut album of Bartees Strange (a formally trained musician who found himself lured in by the punk world). The song “Mustang” showcases the record’s punchy genre-fusion perfectly.” – Jess, marketing manager
