’70s monochromatic interiors

By Staff Writer

In the ’70s, these were your interior decorating goals (apparently).

Folks were pretty excited about colour back in the ’70s. So much so that having a completely monochromatic room in your house was a bit of a thing. At least, according to this snazzy book from the era (lovingly scanned in by Deborah Green, who runs the Netherlands-based online vintage store Mod and Mint). It’s impressive, really, when you consider just how much effort they must have gone to in order to coordinate the carpet, the wicker chairs, the cushions, the overhead beams… But would it have been a joy to sit in? Or would it have melted your eyeballs? Sadly, we’ll never know. (Unless someone decorates their home just like this. In which case, please turn it into a gallery for public viewing and hook us up with tickets post haste. Ta.)
