Tell us about your brand. Penguin Random House is one of the world’s top book publishers, and we have one of the most recognisable brands in the industry – think of us as the Apple of the publishing world.
What do you sell? Essentially, we sell stories. Stories that can provide hope, insight, understanding, escapism, reality, empathy and wonder. We also discover new writers and illustrators, helping them realise their dreams.
Why did you want to be involved with the frankie Good Stuff awards? The core of our business is to find people who are passionate about what they do and help them achieve their goals by using our expertise and understanding of the market. The frankie Good Stuff awards follow these exact same principles.
What makes you well suited to sponsor the writing + podcasts category? We’re always reading manuscripts and looking for new and emerging writers, so we know something great when we see it. We know the market and what sells, including which podcast formats tend to have the cut-through required to be noticed.
Is there something you’re hoping to see in the entries for that category? You can’t go anywhere these days without running into an opinion piece. Writers who inject personality into their work – giving it real character – add something more. These are the pieces we remember and share openly. We’re looking for things that are entertaining and informative, yet the message is still clear.
If you could create an entry of your own, what would it be? Our entry would focus on enticement, connecting people to the story, and creating a sense of longing. Sorry, we can’t give away any more than that – it’s secret writers’ business.
