yumi okita's embroidered moths

By Sophie Kalagas

We've got an eye on you, you lovely patterned, flying things.

Surely it’s not just us who has a middling to severe fear of being trapped in a room with a bunch of fluttery winged creatures. Then again, we’re probably not the only ones who find these textile moths quite pleasing to look at, either.

Stitched up by artist Yumi Okita, they’re colourful and intricately embroidered in a way that reminds us more of beautiful butterflies than those things that repeatedly launch themselves into our front door. Even so, they’ve got wings and are the size of two of our hands, so we’re keeping one eye on them at all times, just in case. We’re on to you, you lovely patterned, flying things.
