Take a peek at some pretty artworks inspired by the abandoned houses in Christchurch’s ‘red zone’.

A few years back, Christchurch in New Zealand was hit by some rather brutal (and fatal) earthquakes. In some suburbs, the houses had to be abandoned entirely, so severe was the damage to the properties. Those areas became known as ‘red zone’, and later served as the inspiration for Yukari Kaihori’s embroidered paintings. The New Zealand-based, Japan-born artist called her series Let’s Talk About What We Have – a life-affirming (and pretty) project, reminding us we can always create something, even when we have very little left.
