tunesday – queen’s cup

You have to appreciate a song that gives you all the feels in exactly two-and-a-half minutes. Queen’s Cup are a new Wellington group doing exactly this with their short-and-sweet debut single “Tongue”. Described as a fantasy song about making out with someone with honey in your mouth, it starts with a simple guitar line and breathy vocals before building up to a lush, swirling chorus that washes over you. With members hailing from indie-rock and punk bands including Yukon Era, Courtney Hate and Soda Boyz, guitar is very much at the centre of Queen’s Cup, though it's pretty cool to see trumpet and cello make an appearance, too.
