tunesday – molly payton releases a new ep and music video
The 21-year-old’s sound is a wee bit grunge, a little bit sweet and always heartfelt.
London-dwelling New Zealander Molly Payton has dropped “Ruins” – the final track off her new EP, Compromise. The 21-year-old indie singer has channelled a few tough, turbulent years into the EP; the relatable tracks are super-honest about her struggles with mental health, trust issues, and a long period of uncertainty in her home life.
While “Ruins” is bright and upbeat, Molly says she penned the track during a particularly rough bout of anxiety. “I’d had a panic attack that morning after an argument with someone and went straight into the studio and just let it all go,” she says. “It's about being frustrated and ashamed of myself and my shitty mental health, and with someone else for not understanding me.
"Now I would say that it’s OK to be anxious and insecure sometimes, and that I can’t expect other people to meet my needs without communicating them first, but it's always easier to be sensible in hindsight, isn’t it?"
