Girlhood is one hell of a drug.
If you’re in the mood for an introspective power-ballad about consent and the unwanted sexual attention that one may unfortunately experience throughout one’s life, then Maple Glider’s (aka Tori Zietsch) latest track is right up your alley. The Naarm-based muso's new single “Don’t Kiss Me” expresses all the emotional turbulence of dealing with objectification at a young age through a slow-building anthem that really hits home.
Tori describes the tune as "a song about consent and the experience of being predated on by older men as a girl/young woman".
"I think many of us are aware of that strong urge to say ‘fuck off’ and be left to our own," she says.
Have a listen to the track below, and don’t forget to have a squiz at the beautifully manic accompanying music video while you’re at it.
