tunesday – ibeyi

Do your ears a favour and settle in for some exquisite tuneage from French-Cuban twins Ibeyi.

ibeyi 1

French-Cuban twins Naomi and Lisa-Kainde Diaz are Ibeyi, a musical outfit combining pop, hip-hop and electronic influences, along with the traditional sounds of their dad’s Yoruba culture. (Yorubaland, by the way, is located in Nigeria – and the Yoruba people are known for their super-rad and super-advanced drumming.) In Ibeyi, Naomi handles percussive duties (her preferred instruments are the Cajon, a box-shaped drum from Peru, and the Batá, a double-headed Yoruba drum), while Lisa-Kainde play the keys. Hit play on the video below to watch and hear their latest tune, “Away Away”, which is probably exactly where it will take you.
