tunesday – hollow coves premiere

By Staff Writer

We’ve got a little dose of loveliness for your earholes, folks – courtesy of two nature-loving chaps from Brisbane.

hollow coves 1

Hollow Coves are Matt Carins and Ryan Henderson, a couple of Brisbane chaps making sweet and soothing folk tunes inspired by nature, escapism and stories from their travels. Yep, it’s just the thing for a Tuesday, when the weekend is but a glimmer on the horizon. Have a listen to our exclusive premiere of their latest track “Coastline”, then scroll down to read our wee chat with the duo (we suspect you’ll find them just as lovely as their music).

When are you at your most creative? Ryan Henderson: I don’t think I’ve really figured that out yet. It’s very sporadic and unpredictable. I kind of wish I knew, because then perhaps I could take advantage of it. Matt Carins: When I’m feeling calm and still and the space is quiet, ideas and lyrics start flowing.

If you had us round for dinner, what could we expect to munch on? Matt: Both of us are pretty average at cooking. Ryan especially. Last year he asked me, “Which way do you cut a tomato?” Living together in Toronto kind of forced us to try a bit harder when it came to cooking, though. We ended up making an epic Caesar salad that was kind of our go-to. So we’d probably end up making you that.

Where’s home? Ryan: Home is where the heart is. At the moment, I’m living on the bayside in south-east Brisbane. Matt: I grew up in Brisbane, then moved out to live on the Gold Coast. I love hearing the sounds of the ocean while I write music from my room.

What’s your favourite hangover cure? Ryan: Bacon and egg roll. Matt: Submerging myself in the ocean. Oh, wait… Nah, bacon and eggs and a strong brew of coffee!

If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be? Ryan and Matt: The hearts of the people in it. If everyone could be more selfless, the world would be a much better place.
