The Aussie band chats about music and soft drink.
What’s your earliest music memory? Scott Baldwin: My dad would play piano for hours and I just loved it. A lot of my dad’s music inspirations still are some of my favourite songs today. Elliot Margin: Sitting in the back of our family Kombi van listening to Van Morrison. Izaac Margin: Playing the violin badly at age five.
Where would you love to perform one day? Sam Margin: Red Rocks Amphitheatre. EM: Mexico. We’re hoping to tick it off next year! IM: The Fillmore in San Fran.
How has the music scene changed in the last 10 years? SM: From CDs, to streaming and now the resurgence of vinyl… All we care about is that people are still listening to music, in whatever form. EM: There’s a bigger focus on touring as little money is made from streaming. With so many venues and festivals going under, it’s really affected a lot of incomes.
Talk to us about your newest album, SODA. SB: I think it has a hint of our original sound and has been produced and engineered by ourselves, and I think it’s our best to date. EM: All thriller, no filler.
What’s your favourite soft drink? SM: Soda water. Boring, but I drink it every day. SB: Vanilla Coke because it’s anything but vanilla. EM: McDonald’s Coke Zero is the ultimate thirst quencher.
What song are you most excited to play live? SM: “SODA”. SB: “Black Balloon”. It’s just such an enjoyable song to play with the boys. IM: “SODA” because it reminds me of Coke Zero.
What’s your go-to lunch meal? SB: You can’t go past chargrilled steak, pepper sauce, mash and veg. EM: Some kind of fresh sandwich, homemade and eaten standing in the kitchen. IM: Four slices of Vegemite toast.
