tunesday – frànçois & the atlas mountains

You don’t need to speak French to enjoy the sounds of Frànçois & the Atlas Mountains. The group, led by bassist and lead singer François Marry, writes breezy, laid-back tunes in their native français, and have a way of making you feel like you're on a lazy summer holiday. The shuffling “Coucou” is pleasingly sweet and naive, but it might surprise you to learn that the song is about François's hate for the word coucou (a cute, if not baby-like, way of saying hello in French) – especially if it's uttered by your former love. Give it a spin below and keep an eye out for the band's forthcoming album Banane Bleue, out on February 26.
