tunesday – fill in the blanks with rain dogs

Meet the band causing ripples in the indie scene.

We caught up for a chinwag with Melbourne/Naarm-based electronic post-punk trio Rain Dogs ahead of the release of their sophomore EP Under The Influence.

Our EP Under The Influence all started when… On a frosty winter evening, Tom sat down at the grand piano and proclaimed that nights are lonely… so lonely.

The best thing about going DIY with Under The Influence was… Not having to relinquish any control. We don’t trust anyone else with the production – we are perfectionists with the sound, even if it is kind of messy sometimes. That might change in the future though.

If we could tour with any band or musician it would be… Tom Waits or Playboi Carti.

The song that was the hardest to finish from Under The Influence was… A song called “Ain’t From Tokyo”. It was so hard to finish that we never finished it and it didn’t make the EP :( Hopefully it will see the light of day on our debut album!

Our favourite song to play live is… Currently our cover of “Into the Void” by Nine Inch Nails. Either that or the song we’ve just released, “Neon Dreams”, which always seems louder and more charged live.

We worked on the EP in Melbourne/Naarm, China and London because… That’s when we were all together on tour and felt inspired to make music!

The people who helped us bring Under The Influence to life are… No people, dogs only.

You’ll love this EP if you’re also a fan of… Nihilism.

The best setting to listen to Under The Influence is…
Driving at night through a down-and-out, crime-ridden metropolis.

Coming up on the Rain Dogs horizon for 2026 is… We’re playing a couple of EP launch shows, the first in Sydney/Warrane at The Vanguard and the next in Melbourne/Naarm at an undisclosed location. Then it’s on to our debut album, which we hope to have completed by the end of the year!
