tunesday - ben mason

Considering he makes music described as 'bedroom break-up pop', Ben Mason still manages to put a smile on our dials.

Ben Mason is a talented man indeed. He founded Rebound Books with his wife Natalie, giving discarded paper products a loving new home as literary-minded stationery. For years he performed on vocals, guitars and bells, no less, in '60s-inspired Melbourne band The Smallgoods. These days he's gone solo, making music in his own name, including debut album Holes and Corners.

For music described as 'bedroom break-up pop', it still manages to put a smile on our dials. Take lead single "Avoiding a Fight", for instance: the lyrics might tell the story of a communication breakdown, but there's something peaceful about following a pair of feet roaming around Melbourne on an autumnal night, with a guitar-strumming folky soundtrack.
