Where we’re going, we don’t need no roads.
They’d probably be the first words out of our mouth as we jumped on a plane to Giethoorn – a pint-sized village in the Netherlands that is refreshingly free of motorways (and the road rage that sadly comes with them).
Known as the “Venice of the Netherlands”, the village was founded way back in 1230 with only canals to get from point A to point B, as well as a bunch of artfully placed foot bridges. Supposedly it’s a rather peaceful place with no motors to disturb the calm surroundings – just plenty of time to drift on by and listen to the local tweeting. Ahh, how’s the serenity?
