the reading project

Keep an eye out for these tiny libraries.

One day, while taking a wander over New York City’s iconic Brooklyn Bridge, artist Shaheryar Malik had a thought: what if, instead of doing the usual thing and taking a selfie in this famed spot, he left a pile of his own books?

The experiment, called The Reading Project, was Shaheryar’s way of sharing something physical with the world, instead of something digital. Since then, he’s left books in some of the city’s most popular spots: Times Square Subway Station, Central Park – even elevators in business towers.

With a little note atop each pile asking passersby to pick up a book and let him know which one they nabbed, his aim is to see where his paperbacks wind up. (As it stands, they’ve made their way to more than 30 countries around the world.)

Check out the pics below to see how these tiny libraries stack up.
