Prepare your nostalgia glands: a Melbourne artist has recreated the suburban milk bar he worked at in the ’90s, and it’s currently open to the public to check out.
If you came of age in ’90s suburbia, you no doubt took your fair share to trips to your local milk bar. Whether you were cruising for Samboy chips or a box of Nerds, it was always a special occasion. Artist Callum Preston has commemorated the old-school convenience store with his exhibition MILK BAR – Icon of Suburbia, for which he has recreated the milk bar he worked at in the ’90s. You’ll find lovingly hand-painted choccie bars, cereal boxes, copies of vintage mags and more, all crafted from timber. He’s even recreated the original shop front. We must admit, we’re impressed – and a little bit giddy from the nostalgia hit. Check it out before it closes this Sunday at RVCA Corner Gallery (82, Stanley Street, Collingwood in Melbourne).
