Nicole Dextras uses a spray bottle and freezing temperatures to make a foreboding floral arrangement.
Brrrr… is it cold in here? Or is it just us peeping this icy installation by Canadian artist Nicole Dextras? During her residency at the Banff Centre in Alberta, Nicole used a spray bottle of water and Alberta’s teeth-chattering temperatures to create Bouquet, a collection of 15 frozen Victorian frocks made to look like an elegant-but-creepy floral arrangement. Nicole says the whole thing is meant to look like a "bouquet of fantastical plant life summed from the underworld". If the open bottoms of the dresses, rimmed with icicles, reminds you of venus fly traps, that's no coincidence either: Nicole uses women's clothing to refer to "the deep-seated fear of the man-eating female in science fiction and pagan myth".
