needle work needle play

This exhibition brings together a whole bunch of embroidery techniques that share a common thread (excuse the pun).

Here's a group show to get jittery about: Needle Work Needle Play is an exhibition featuring handmade creations by nine of Australia's best embroidery gals. Including the likes of Carly Altree-Williams (who we featured a little while ago here), frankie friend Cat Rabbit, Evie Barrow and MaricorMaricar, it brings together a whole bunch of different crafting techniques with a common thread (excuse the pun). They want to push the boundaries of what can be made with coloured twine, creating innovating installations, soft sculpture, portraiture and jewellery.

Opening night is on August 10th at Brunswick Street Gallery in Melbourne, and it will be running until the 23rd. If you're not in the hood, have a glance past their blog for some behind-the-scenes snaps and interviews with the involved artists.
