meet our cover artist, kartika paramita

We caught up for a chinwag with our Issue 128 cover artist.

Tell us about who you are and what you do. I’m Kartika, a work-at-home mum, artist and designer based in Indonesia. I create colourful printable wall art and playful seamless patterns – little pieces of joy people can bring into their homes.

How did you get into an art career? I’ve always loved drawing and painting, but I only started taking it seriously a few years ago, around 2018. Opening my Etsy shop changed everything – it connected me with people all over the world who found a spark of happiness in my work.

What are your favourite mediums to work with? These days I mostly work digitally, but I love mimicking the textures of oil pastels and gouache-acrylic paints. When I get the chance, I still enjoy painting with real pastels and gouache – it’s just that with mum life, digital tools make it easier to jump in and out of work.

What inspires you? Nature, travel and food are my biggest sparks of inspiration. I like to capture small everyday joys – the colours of a market, a good cup of coffee, or even the messy fun of cooking at home.

How do you like to relax in your spare time? Spending time with my family is my reset button. It could be playing with my kid, trying out a new recipe, or enjoying a quiet morning coffee. And sometimes, sneaking in a solo day out feels like magic.

What’s one piece of advice you’d share with people who want to sell their art? Don’t wait until you feel completely ‘ready’ – just start. Share your work, stay consistent and experiment. You never know which piece will resonate deeply with someone out there.

Where can we see more from you? You can find my work at kartikaparamita.etsy.com. I share behind-the-scenes and new creations on Instagram @kartikaparamita, and you can also explore my pattern collections at spoonflower.com/profiles/kartikaparamitastudio
