Tell us about yourself. I am a full-time freelance pattern designer and illustrator based in Budapest, Hungary. I graduated with a master’s degree in graphic arts four years ago from the Hungarian University of Fine Arts.

What are the main things you like to depict in your artwork? I love illustrative narratives with driving dynamics and a strong atmosphere. The key element in my work is familiarity – somehow connecting or reconnecting a common recognition of small details and memories. My main topics are animals, still lifes, emotions and visual storytelling.

How would you describe the style of your work? I love floating between different visual narratives, atmospheres and moods, and I express myself with my recurring motifs and favourite colour combinations. I have two different graphic languages – a more abstract and a comic-like, detailed one. Many people ask how to get an artistic style. For some reason, I decided not to choose one but keep experimenting, and this is how I have my own graphic identity. The most important thing for me is the feeling of familiarity, the ability to express emotions, and the connections between collective and personal memories.

Can you tell us about the artwork that’s on our cover? It’s a digital artwork from the first year I bought an iPad for myself, when I was enjoying the limitless freedom of digital drawing so much. She is my first black cat, Nina, who has tiny vampire teeth. Since then, I’ve also found another black kitten, MeiMei. I have cats, dogs and horses, and I love animals in general – I feel really calm and comfortable when I’m around them.

Your work has appeared on clothes, shoes, bags – anything else? As a pattern designer, I have a wide range of collaborations and commissions, and I love connecting the visual tools of illustration with fashion and packaging design.
