life on tour with george alice

We go behind-the-scenes with the Adelaide-born muso as she embarks on tour alongside King Stingray.

Since winning triple j's Unearthed at only 15 years old, George Alice has been working pretty dang hard and has even racked up nearly 40 million streams from all around the globe. She also just got back home after going on a national tour with beloved band, King Stingray, and she was even nice enough to give us a sneak-peek of her time performing out on the open road.

Where was your favourite place to perform and why? Brisbane was my favourite city on this run, I always love playing there. The crowds are so engaged and always make me smile.

L: An aesthetically-pleasing venue wall. R: Side-stage King Stingray rock show.

How do you get over the pre-stage jitters? I like to sit with the band before going on, we hype each other up and little and remind each other to have fun. Nothing crazy, but it does the trick!

What is your favourite tune to sing live? I love playing Stuck in a Bubble. It feels the most organic and fun for me, a great way to end the set as the second to last song.

L: Where words fail, music speaks...<3. R: Dan lifting weights pre-show.

Most memorable tour experiences? That would have to be when something goes wrong before the show. We’ve played shows before where, in soundcheck, our gear wasn’t working so playing was impossible, but, somehow, we make it work and it all comes together within the last minutes. Such a fun, juggling game of emotions!

Best and worst parts of being on the road? The best part is being with the crew. We have such a great bunch of people on the road and you really do get really close with everyone you’re surrounded by, which is really special. The worst part would probably be sometimes the stress and rush of early flights, little to no sleep and keeping an energetic attitude, but that can be easily fixed by a little green room nap.

Any advice for people just starting their tour journey? Be yourself. Every show won’t be your best, but show up no matter what and look after yourself.

L: Soundcheck photoshoot. R: Early morning coffee spill :(
