kitsch in the kitchen

Oh, to return to a time when table settings were styled with piles of gaudy crockery and as many clashing patterns as your eyeballs could handle.

Oh, to return to a time when table settings were styled with piles of gaudy plates and bowls and as many clashing patterns as your eyeballs could handle. That wonderful spell in the 1980s when you were probably sipping Schnapps from a parrot-shaped mug, then delicately dabbing your chin with your finest Ken Done napkin. Such fun! These tabletop images have been gathered up by Aussie retro enthusiasts the Island Continent, and we are now quite inspired to bring flashy mealtimes back. Do not be surprised if kitsch candle holders start appearing in the next few issues of frankie – accompanied by some highly flammable fake flowers and garish placemats, perhaps.
