The ’80s were a curious time, sartorially speaking, and perhaps even a little more so in Japan.

The ’80s were a curious time, sartorially speaking, and perhaps even a little more so in Japan. We weren’t there, unfortunately, to witness Tokyo fashion trends for ourselves, but we’ve come across the next best thing: the Japanese Fashion Archive, a private collection of vintage avant-garde Japanese fashion, specialising in the work of designers Rei Kawakubo, Kansai Yamamoto, Issey Miyake, Yohji Yamamoto, Christopher Nemeth and Michiko Koshino. Pop over to their blog to take a peek at the retro duds in question, or scroll down to see some of our favourites. Either way, brace your eyeballs; we’ll wager you’ve never seen jumpers this loud.
