jagged little pill the musical is coming to melbourne
Time to warm up your vocal cords, Melburnians.
Here’s one for the folks who’ve sung “You Oughta Know” at the top of their lungs too many times to count: Jagged Little Pill the Musical is heading to Melbourne in January, which means you can finally belt out some Alanis Morissette alongside a whole crowd of people rather than alone in your bedroom. Hoorah!
Inspired by the album that empowered tonnes of women in the ‘90s, Jagged Little Pill the Musical centres on the troubled Healy family, played by Natalie Bassingthwaighte, Tim Draxl, Emily Nkomo and Liam Head. The story – written by Diablo Cody and directed by Diane Paulus – is all about the power of people coming together. “Alanis's iconic album inspired me to tell a story that was both emotional and hopeful, and I'm so grateful it has come to life with Diane’s incredible direction and Larbi and Tom’s choreography and music arrangements,” Diablo says.
The show will first hit the stage at Melbourne’s Comedy Theatre on January 2, after premiering at Theatre Royal Sydney this month. Alanis says she’s stoked that we Aussie fans finally get to see it. “This show has been a vehicle of healing for so many of us throughout its journey and knowing we are coming your way is such amazing news after these intense 12 months across the world,” she says. “Can’t wait to share this blood sweat and tears musical with you...as Australia has always held a very special place in my heart.”
