horizon festival is back! check out our list of recommendations and giveaway
The Sunshine Coast arts festival will run from August 25 to September 3.
Listen up, arty folk: the return of Horizon Festival, the multi-day arts and culture festival, is back for another year and it’s filled to the brim with ace programs for you lovely folk to check out. To help you all out with selecting what to see, have a read of our list of must-sees down below, and don’t forget to have a look at our giveaway where we have 10 double-passes to Clementine Ford’s Conversations with Men up for grabs.
FOR SHUTTERBUGS: YOUR LOCAL PHOTO CLUB
This one-night-only exhibition highlights all the rad work of Queensland photographers, each exploring how analog film still has a place in today’s digital age. It’s a must-see for any photography buffs itching to get a look at Sunshine Coast’s vibrant scene.
FOR PERFORMANCE-LOVERS: DIRTY LAUNDRY
This super-glitsy cabaret show is hosted by Briefs Factory, a creative collective who present some pretty spectacular performances. Described as a night of “intoxicating physicality, gob-smacking comedy, unapologetic truths and ridiculous showmanship”, it’s not something to miss out on.
FOR GOOD LISTENERS: CONVERSATIONS WITH MEN
If you’re in the mood for something a bit more introspective then we recommend this presentation, Conversations with Men, moderated by acclaimed writer, broadcaster and feminist speaker Clementine Ford. We also have 10 double-passes to this public speaking event available in our giveaway, so have a look at all the deets over here.
FOR SUPER-RAD FOLK: SKATEBOARD ART WORKSHOP
Skateboarding still manages to be one of the coolest activities you can do in this day and age – while wearing a helmet – so why not zhush up the humble board with some fresh new art? This event is open for pro-skaters and amateurs alike, and all equipment is provided.
FOR ART-LOVERS: WARP
Listen, with a name like that, it’s hard not to be a little intrigued. This event features the work of Jack McRae, an emerging artist from the Sunshine Coast, who creates nifty, hand-cut collages made from coloured paper. Jack has a penchant for exploring the different forms of bold colours, lines and shapes that are lovely to gaze at, so don’t forget to add this to your itinerary.
