help knit the world's longest bookmark

All of Canberra's public libraries have come together and are trying to knit the world's longest bookmark. Want to help?

We have something to admit: we're not very good at bookmarks. Instead of actually buying a nifty one or making our own, we just end up using the objects around us: tissues, chocolate wrappers, aluminium foil, old ribbons... That's why this project is even more impressive to us. All of Canberra's public libraries have come together and are trying to knit the world's longest bookmark. Over the next month or so they are encouraging crafty folk to create over 20,000 knitted bookmarks that will eventually be four kilometres long, connecting two of the public libraries. Once they have achieved their goal, the little rectangles will be sewn together to make blankets for the city's homeless. To see the specifications of the bookmark size and to get ideas, check out the details here.
