get a load of these mid-century meals
Have a squiz at these slightly off-putting images of mid-century tucker.
The colourful, decorative food photography from this uber-fun Flickr album makes the minimalism of modern-day cookbooks seem so gosh-darn boring. The collection comes from one helpful Flickr user who pulls together images of old-timey recipes from 1950s and ’60s cookbooks of food manufacturers like Cadbury’s and Nestle. We’re simultaneously repulsed by and attracted to the whimsical-looking dishes – crunchy spaghetti and eggs in aspic, anyone? (Aspic is a jelly made of meat stock, in case you were wondering.) It seems the cooks of yore also had a penchant for colouring food in pale shades of pink, whether the dish was sweet or savoury. Bon appetit!
