dandy photography

Oscar Wilde, the original dandy, said: "Fashion is a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months."

For conceptual photographer Sophia Wallace, dandyism is a political stance as well as an aesthetic one. Throughout history dandies have often stood outside the 'let's be straight, get married and have kids' norm, and Sophia reckons the look is still a pretty radical, androgynous space for men, women and transgender folk to inhabit. Also it doesn't hurt that her dandies, photographed here, looking bloody amazing as well. Oscar Wilde, the original dandy, said: "Fashion is a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months." Sophia's work might prove him wrong, but we don't think he'd care. The man was a sucker for a cravat after all.
