cranberry and pistachio nougat

Feeling up for a sugary, stick-to-your-teeth treat?

Ever wondered what exactly nougat is? How is it both part of a Mars bar and a standalone confection? Well, it turns out there are three types of nougat: white, brown and Viennese (also known as German nougat). Each is typically made with nuts, though other ingredients – and the resulting texture – can vary. (Funnily enough, the chocolate-malt nougat in Mars bars contains no nuts, so go figure.) All you really need to know about nougat, though, is that it's a chewy, sugary, stick-to-your-teeth delight. If you’d like to give it a whirl, you can head to Cooking Melangery, where you’ll find this recipe for cranberry and pistachio nougat with rose water. Alternatively, bookmark the recipe for Christmas: you’ll find that nougat holds up quite well and looks particularly pretty when wrapped in cellophane.
