charlotte mei’s bread plate

By Emma Do

A ceramic home for your morning slice.

Some might look at this bread plate by London-based artist and ceramicist Charlotte May and think, “Cute, but why?” We think the answer is abundantly clear: a slice of bread is perhaps the most versatile vessel in the food world, perfect for keeping hold of a sausage or delivering yummy spreads into our tummy. Why wouldn’t you dedicate a lump of clay to the mighty white slice? Besides, we’re rather partial to objects with faces on them, and Charlotte’s sleepy bread faces are especially adorable. Each is handmade to order, so if you’d like one in your cupboard, allow up to two weeks for its creation.
