ceramic swimmers

Artist Brendan Lee Satish Tang illustrates what it feels like to be a 'fish out of water'.

At first glance (or without reading glasses) these drawings with the familiar blue hue look like beautiful antique plates. And they are – but they also aren’t. Artist Brendan Lee Satish Tang has used Ming Dynasty ceramics and the phrase 'fish out of water' as inspiration for this series that highlights feelings of culture shock. Born in Ireland to Trinidadian parents, Brendan now lives in North America and says The Swimmers series draws attention to “the fact that we are the fish... always finding our way through our greater culture.” Check out his site for more.
